Popular family cars caught up in tax hike

Two popular family car models have been caught up in a new tax hike announced by the federal government.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Finance Minister Katy Gallagher delivered the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook on Wednesday.

While most cars are not currently subject to the Luxury Car Tax (LCT), changes to fuel efficiency standards announced by the federal government on Wednesday will force consumers to pay the tax on a number of previously exempt cars.
