Infrastructure Minister Catherine King indicated on Wednesday that the government intends to bring legislation to the parliament before the end of the year to establish a so-called vehicle emissions standard.
The standard is a form of regulation already well established in most advanced economy markets to force carmakers to prioritise delivery of zero- and low-emissions vehicles by driving up the relative cost of gas guzzlers.
